Coral reefs of the Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu, India: Decadal changes in status and management paradigms

The Suganthi Devadason Marine Research Institute (SDMRI) - Reef Research Team (RRT) in association with Tamil Nadu Forest Department has developed a comprehensive baseline data on the status of coral reefs in Gulf of Mannar during 2003-05, and thereafter regular annual status surveys in permanent monitoring sites have been carried out till date with the funding assistance from State and Union Governments.

The voluminous field data collected over a period of about two decades (2003-21) has been systematically compiled, documented and published as a book titled “Coral reefs of the Gulf of Mannar, Tamil Nadu, India: Decadal changes in status and management paradigms”. This publication has been brought out by the Environment, Climate Change and Forests Department of Government of Tamil Nadu in partnership with Suganthi Devadason Marine Research Institute, Tuticorin.

Presenting information on coral status, diversity and threats, the book traces the decadal changes in these parameters.
